Despite being a small shop in summer stock theatre, we built most of the costumes for Clue. I worked to some degree on almost all of them, but the two that were mainly my responsibility were Yvette's maid dress and Colonel Mustard's jacket. Yvette's dress was a challenge because it was completely assembled with the trim around the neck sewn, sandwiched between the seams, when it was requested that the neckline be lowered. That meant the trim had to be reattached but without being able to bag out the bodice since it was already attached to the skirt and petticoat.
Originally the jacket for Colonel Mustard was not being built, but the bought version came as khaki instead of white, and all attempts to dye it to a clear shade of yellow ended up some version of green. It was decided last minute that it would be built, and I was in charge of creating a pattern based on the original jacket. The designer and I then worked together to sew the garment, the whole process from patterning to finished jacket took just a few hours over a workday. Through this show, I also became very comfortable sewing buttonholes as many jackets and vests required them.
